Always send related materials, e.g. chorion, and placenta, implantation sites. If it is possible, keep the amniotic sac intact.

Small Specimens-Under 4 Inches Long

Put the entire specimen as soon as possible in a liberal amount of 10% buffered formalin. Containers should be filled to the top to keep the specimen from moving too much. Especially small embryos may be placed in small vials, and the vials sunk in larger jars, then held in place with cotton batting. Please label all jars with your institute's name, your name and a number keyed to a list and printed description of the contents. Place a paper label with this same information written in pencil into the jar as well.

Large Specimens-4 Inches or Longer

Place in a container with mouth large enough to accommodate the specimen without squeezing. Fill the jar with a 10% buffered formalin solution.

Shipping of Individual Specimens

Place jars wrapped in cotton batting into zip lock bags. Two bags per jar.  Place in box with at least 2 inches of packing peanuts on all sides and in between jars. Be sure to fill the box to the top with peanuts so there can be no shifting of the contents during shipping.
