The Division seeks examples of medical equipment and instrumentation that represent the practice of medicine.

We seek to acquire artifacts of note; representing significant innovations in medical practice or objects associated with person(s) significant to the history of medicine and artifacts of record; representing the standard of care of a period of time in the history of medicine.

Priority subject areas for collecting include (in order of importance)

  • U.S. Military Medicine and Public Health
  • U.S. Federal Medicine and Federally Funded Medicine
  • Foreign Military Medicine
  • Microscopy and Biomedical ImagingTechnology
  • Surgical Technology
  • Anatomical Models

Historical artifacts can be accepted only for donation. The museum does not have a purchasing budget and is unable purchase artifacts for the collection.

We prefer that donors do not send objects until museum staff has had a chance to evaluate the potential donation. We request that any potential donors send a photograph and provide as much detailled information about the materiel they are offering as possible.
